IMPORTANT UPDATE: You must use this Annual Health & Medical Record (2019 Printing or later), when your AHMR expires you must use this form to renew your medical record. Click HERE for the AHMR. This form has all the instructions for filling out the new AHMR. SUMMER CAMP JULY 6 through 14, 2024: CAMP RAINEY MOUNTAIN IN CLAYTON, GEORGIA

The Troop voted to go to Camp Roosevelt in Eddington, ME this coming year,but, due to a changed program it was later voted on by the Scouts to turn south instead and we are headed to Camp Rainey Mountain in Georgia instead! Don't forget: Many Scouts have built up funds over the year with fundraising efforts, and their summer camp price is greatly reduced or already paid (depending on how much the Scout earned).  Please see Ms. Young with ANY questions or to see how much your Scout has in their account.

All Scouts MUST have a current BSA Medical Form (AB&C) on file with the Troop for Summer Camp.  Medical Forms are valid for 1 year. Don't wait until springtime when it is VERY busy for physicals due to summer sports and summer camps, get your physicals as soon as possible.  To check on your Scout's medical form, and its expiration date, please see Ms. Haines.

Important note to parents: Please be sure that your Scout is signing up for activities during each meeting. A scout must sign up for all activities they wish to participate in, provide a permission slip signed by a parent (or legal guardian) and pay any required fees for that event by the date required, or they can not participate.

Welcome to Troop 270

Welcome to Troop 270 of Thurmont, Maryland.

Troop 270 has a long legacy.  While Troop 270 has been around for 75 years, its roots date back over 90.  From 1928 to 1932, Charles Eby led a group of 12 boys in an organization modeled after the Boy Scouts of America. In 1932, the boys, now under the leadership of Ross Smith Sr., recruited the Thurmont Lions Club to sponsor a BSA troop and Troop 11 was chartered. It is unclear what happened during World War II, but there was a re-organization when the Francis Scott Key Council was absorbed by the National Capital Area Council during the war. Somewhere around March 1946 Troop 11 became Troop 270. Throughout the years, the troop has continuously been sponsored by the Thurmont Lions Club. In 1956, the Scoutmaster designed and had built the only privately owned Scout building in the council; it is owned by Thurmont Scouting, Inc., a not-for-profit dedicated to the ideals of all scouting groups.

In 2019, the Boy Scouts of America evolved the Boy Scout program in to the Scouts, BSA program. Included with that program was the introduction of Scout, BSA girl troops with the exact same requirements as the boy troops. The Thurmont Lions were the first in Frederick County to charter a troop, thus, Scouts, BSA Troop 270G was born.

Troops 270B&G are the most active in the Frederick County area and has a program designed to keep any Scout busy! Some of these activities include, but by no means are limited to; backpacking, bicycle touring, camping, caving, hiking, mountain biking, rafting, rappelling, rock climbing, sailing, scuba diving, skiing, snowboarding, and just having fun! And these are just a few of the things that Troop 270 does!

On December 12, 2020 we moved to a new Web Hosting Company. Due to some issues with our old web hosting company, we felt it best to move to another to keep full functionality and also institute SSL to keep your privacy. We encourage you to report any issues you may find on the site as there may have been a glitch or two in the move of our software from one host to another.  Thanks.

We have upgraded and significantly improved the Website for 2019 and are compliant with the EU GDPR! As you can see the upgrade and all new look of the Web site is complete!  While you still will be able to find all the items that you are used to getting here, the look of the Web site is all new as well as most of everything you can't see.  In addition to sprucing the site up, we have upgraded the workings to make the site accessible to the disabled and added new content for the Scouts.
